Therefore, whenever you obtain new learning resources, you must conduct assessment tool validation before students use them. There's no need to wait for your next scheduled validation. Validate new materials right away to ensure they are fit for student use.

- Other Related Resources: These may include lists, logs, and forms created separately from the student workbook and marking guide. Validate these to ensure they suit the assessment task and comply with subject requirements.

Assessment Validation Panel

Clause 1.11 specifies the requirements for validation panel members. It states validation can be performed by one or more people. However, RTOs usually require all educators and assessors to participate, sometimes including field experts.

Collectively, your assessment validation panel must have:

- Workplace Competencies and Up-to-date Industry Skills relevant to the validated unit.
- Current Knowledge and Skills in Vocational Education.
- Either of the following credentials for training and assessment:
- Certificate IV in Training and Assessment TAE40116 or its successor.

Assessment Principles

- Fairness: Is equal opportunity and access provided to everyone in the assessment process?
- Adaptability: Are there multiple ways to demonstrate competence, accommodating different needs and preferences?

Each assessment task must have clear and specific standard answers to guide the evaluator’s decision on the student’s competence. Therefore, it’s crucial that your instructions do not confuse students or trainers.

Not using double-barrelled questions makes it more straightforward for students to respond and for trainers to accurately assess student competence.
